Meet The Artist

Donna Casey Hello! My name is Donna Casey and I have been an artist since I could hold a crayon. I have always loved animals, having grown up in a home where my Dad raised pigeons, canaries, parakeets, finches, ducks, pheasants and chickens. (They weren't all in the house! We had out-buildings to house the larger birds while the smaller ones were kept in the basement.) We had several cats over the years and a beagle named Brandy. There was always a canary singing in the kitchen. My favorite shows on TV were Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, My Friend Flicka and National Velvet.

I used to draw with "Captain Bob" on Sunday mornings and I loved the shows where Walt Disney would show how an animated cartoon was made, from the artist's perspective. Small parts of the character were drawn and painted on separate sheets of transparent plastic called 'cells'. Fascinating...to me, anyway. :)

Early on I tried my hand at sculpting with clay (Play-Doh hadn't been invented yet) and I enjoyed it, but I have this thing about getting stuff under my fingernails...yechh! Since then, I have rendered animals and birds with oil paints, watercolors, pen & ink, charcoal, pastels, colored pencils, plain old pencil, acrylics and even leather dyes.

For 16 years, I painted Wee Forest Folk for the Petersen family. I loved painting the tiny details on these collectible figurines but my eyesight began to deteriorate to the point where it was more frustrating than enjoyable and I was forced to stop.

THEN I discovered Photoshop! It's the best of all worlds!! All of those Sunday nights studying Walt Disney's animation cells paid off! Photoshop layers are virtually the same thing! I can create beautiful art with millions of colors and print it out in almost unlimited sizes. My creativity is unleashed and runs wild. I can enlarge tiny details to work on with ease and there's no mess to clean up! I can put a pet on any kind of background I can think up. You want your dog sitting in front of the Taj Mahal? Done! Stock photo companies like Dreamstime.com supply me with millions of possibilities. I also like other people's digital artwork, such as Jaguarwoman's graphics. I incorporate them into my art for something totally unique.

2 Pomeranians Last but not least, I'd like to introduce you to my inspirations for this business endeavor; my Pomeranians, Pixel and Sydney. Their 'personalities' are like night and day, but I love them both and they are VERY photogenic! We all live together with my husband and our grandson, just west of Boston, Massachusetts.

Please feel free to explore the web site and I do hope you enjoy your stay. And maybe think about immortalizing your pet in your favorite place!
