Photo Tips

If you will be taking photos of your pet specifically for a digital painting, here are a few things you can do to get the best results:
  • get down to your pet's level and shoot straight on instead of looking down at him/her
  • try to take the photos outside on an overcast, bright day without direct sunlight
  • try to fill the viewfinder 2/3 full with your pet's body, or head if you're going for a head portrait
  • make sure there is nothing blocking parts of your pet's important markings
  • try to get a plain, neutral background behind your pet

The best paintings are rendered by an artist who can see every detail in the photos. Having said that, you don't have to get a 'nostril shot', but it can't hurt!
